Amazon Set To Enter Hotel Booking Business

Amazon, one of the world’s top e-commerce company is gearing up to enter into travel service which will make bookings of independent hotels and resorts near major cities.

The service is expected to be available by the first month of 2015 and will show only a select number of hotels near New York, Los Angeles and Seattle to start with.

Reports said service properties will list their room types, availability, pricing information, and photos into an Amazon extranet and would pay a standard 15% commission to Amazon for the prepaid bookings.

Amazon would be using TripAdvisor ratings to identify the properties that will participate. There will also be information about the destination and things to do on the site.

It is being said that the initiative will help independent hotels and resorts who don’t have the marketing power of big hotels chains or online travel agencies at their disposal list themselves and make use of the wide reach and popularity of Amazon.

This will allow the e-commerce company to offer an independent marketplace for hotels.
