India Sets Up Pharmaceutical Database System

India government said it has set up an integrated pharmaceutical database system and price monitoring resource units for drugs in each state.

The government was committed to encourage the use of generic drugs and claimed that prices of medicines had come down under the Narendra Modi government over the last six months, said Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister Ananth Kumar.

In a written reply in Lok Sabha, he said "In the last six months, no prices of medicines have been hiked. There is no question of sky-rocketing medicine prices, in fact, the prices of drugs have come down under the Modi government".

The minister said that the government has set up an integrated pharmaceutical database system and price monitoring resource units for drugs in each state.

“Modi government's aim will be to provide good quality affordable medicines to people and will open 3,000 outlets for generic medicines across the country”, he added.

Health Minister J.P. Nadda said in order to check spurious drugs; there was a need to increase the quality and manpower in laboratories across the country.
