In an attempt to better establish its position in
the global market, especially in South East Asia, Jet Airways is setting its
sights on turning Bangkok into a mini-hub to extend its network.
Strengthening Bangkok's hub role is seen as part of Jet Airways'
international expansion.
Bangkok is seen as a stepping stone for the carrier
to reach new East Asia destinations within a radius of three to five hours.
Implementation of the Asean Economic Community late
next year will also be a major driver for fostering Jet Airways' strategy of
making Bangkok a hub for its international network in the region.
With the introduction of the Ho Chi Minh City flight,
Jet Airways operates 35 flights a week from Bangkok, all served by Boeing
737-800 and 737-900ER single-aisle jets.
Jet Airways, with a strong presence and brand
recognition in India, is also looking at expanding its European coverage that
may go beyond that covered by its equity partner, Etihad Airways, the UAE's
flag carrier.
Etihad, holding a 24% stake in Jet Airways, has an
extensive coverage of Europe from its base in Abu Dhabi, and the partnership
allows the two airlines to feed passengers to each other.
