Australia’s QANTAS has marked its 94th
birthday and the 70th anniversary of its Flying Kangaroo logo by unveiling a
1970s makeover of a new Boeing 737.
At the Seattle head quarters of Boeing,
the curtains came off the head turning design at a special hangar ceremony before
an audience that included Qantas ambassador John Travolta.
Group executive for brand, marketing and
corporate affairs Olivia Wirth said the retro livery was a reminder of the
pioneering role Qantas held in the aviation market.
The signature element of the 1971-1984
livery was the ochre band around the window line of the aircraft which has been
recreated in the Boeing 737. Ochre reflected the colours of outback Queensland
where Qantas was established in 1920.
In 1984, the flying kangaroo logo shed its wings, becoming the streamlined roo it is today. The new look 737 will be welcomed into Sydney and will operate across all Qantas domestic routes.
