Interpol, the global police body and
AirAsia further extend their partnership to promote global crime awareness
campaign with the delivery of a specially liveried aircraft.
The aircraft, which was specially designed to promote a global crime awareness campaign, arrived in Kuala Lumpur. In June, AirAsia became the first airline to pilot Interpol’s I-Checkit system, which screens passports of its prospective passengers against Interpol’s Stolen and Lost Travel Documents (SLTD) database.
AirAsia is the first airline in the
world to collaborate with Interpol to implement the system. With the
formalisation of the partnership, AirAsia will screen all of its passengers at
all the airports that it operates in using the integrated system, except for
passengers using KLIA2.
According to AirAsia, the checks have
already led to the detection of almost 50 individuals who had tried to travel
with fraudulent documents.
The special “Turn Back Crime” aircraft
livery took six days to complete and would carry the important message against
crime in the 23 countries within the AirAsia network.
Executive director of the campaign, Roraima Andriani, said she hoped AirAsia’s innovative approach would inspire others to identify new and exciting ways to help “turn back crime”.
